On January 20, 2009, Barrack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America. Obama read off of Abraham Lincoln's bible before he was sworn in. He made history because he was the first african american to become president. Millions of people watched from Washington D.C. (where to event took place) on their T.V's and on their computers.
Obama closes secret prisons and detention camps. He says "we dont have to torture." President Bush was accused for years by critics from permitting torture. 16 retired generals stood behind Mr. Obama and applauded as he signed three orders at the White House.
